A public life connecting people and possibility

Samson Deen is a Ghanaian entrepreneur and sports administrator whose public career brings together business, national service and the development of Para sport in Africa. His work spans the practical demands of travel and major events, the responsibilities of elected sports leadership, and the partnerships that connect African institutions with a wider world.

He is President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana and was elected President of the African Paralympic Committee in 2021. Coverage of his career reflects several connected interests: opening pathways for athletes with disabilities, building stronger sports institutions, encouraging investment and bringing commercial experience into public-facing work.

This profile follows that public record through dated milestones. It places individual contributions alongside the athletes, member committees, public authorities and partners whose collective work makes sporting progress possible.

Enterprise as a foundation

Deen’s business background includes African Origin Travel and Sports Tourism, a company associated with international travel and sporting events. A 2014 report recorded its recognition in sports tourism and described his ownership of Metro FM in Kumasi at that time. These early activities brought together media, mobility and the audience around sport.

In May 2022, the Daily Graphic reported the appointment of African Origin as an authorised ticketing and hospitality agent for Ghana’s participation in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The appointment is a specific historical milestone in the company’s sports-travel work.

The enterprise directory on this website also introduces newer Metro concepts. Each entry identifies whether it concerns a documented business activity, a professional affiliation or a project in development. This provides a clear view of a portfolio that reaches beyond sport while keeping established work and future plans in their proper context.

A national platform for Para sport

Deen entered the presidency of Ghana’s National Paralympic Committee in July 2019. The role placed him within the institutions responsible for advancing Ghanaian participation in the Paralympic movement and strengthening the national environment around athletes with disabilities.

In October 2024, Ghana News Agency reported his unopposed return for a second four-year term. The renewed mandate forms a significant chapter in his national sports administration record.

National leadership in Para sport involves more than the competition calendar. Athlete preparation depends on coordination among federations, technical personnel, accessible facilities, transport and funding partners. These connected needs help explain the emphasis on cooperation and institutional support that runs through Deen’s public engagements.

From Ghana to a continental mandate

On 31 October 2021 in Rabat, Morocco, Deen won the African Paralympic Committee presidential election. The International Paralympic Committee reported a 24–15 vote, with Deen succeeding Leonel da Rocha Pinto. Plans for an inaugural African Para Games were among the priorities described at the beginning of that term.

In November 2025, Ghana News Agency reported his re-election with 38 of 40 votes; French-language outlet Francs Jeux also covered the result. These reports document the electoral milestones of his continental work.

A continental platform brings different national circumstances into the same conversation. Access to competition, athlete development and sustainable programmes require cooperation across borders and respect for the work of national committees. The milestone archive preserves the dates and sources of this journey rather than presenting historical reports as new announcements.

Accra 2023: a shared African stage

The inaugural African Para Games took place in Accra in September 2023. The programme brought amputee football, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis to the Ghanaian capital. Ghana’s amputee football team, the Black Challenge, won gold.

The Games gave a concrete setting to the continental competition ambition described after Deen’s 2021 election. Coverage of preparations included engagement with international wheelchair basketball representatives and venue readiness. Delivery depended on the contributions of competitors, technical officials, organisers, public authorities and volunteers.

For this profile, Accra 2023 is both a competition milestone and a point of connection between advocacy and practical organisation. The official photographic archive records delegations, ceremony and participation, keeping the athletes and the wider event community at the centre of the story.

Inclusion through international cooperation

In November 2022, Deen outlined the WalkInMyShoe campaign in connection with preparations for Accra 2023. Reported from an IPC gathering in Berlin, the initiative sought to bring public figures closer to the experience of Para sport and challenge barriers in public understanding.

His international engagements also included a working visit to Colombia. The Colombian Foreign Ministry’s February 2023 account described discussions involving Vice-President Francia Márquez and Sports Minister María Isabel Urrutia, with inclusion through sport as a shared concern. The visit connected Ghana’s sporting ambitions with opportunities for cooperation beyond Africa.

In March 2023, the Egyptian Paralympic Committee also documented his participation in an engagement marking the launch of its media system. Together, these records show a public career extending across sporting, diplomatic and communications settings.

Public service and the work of delivery

Deen’s event-management responsibilities have extended beyond the Para Games. In February 2024, Ghana News Agency identified him as chairman of the transport subcommittee for the 13th African Games, with transport simulation among the preparations. Those African Games were held in March 2024 and are a separate event from the September 2023 African Para Games.

Ghana Broadcasting Corporation reported his reappointment to the National Sports Authority Board in December 2025. In August 2026, Citi Sports reported that he would chair the Authority’s Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee.

The committee coverage described a focus on more sustainable financing and partnership development. These are responsibilities and policy ambitions; their longer-term results should be assessed against implementation and published outcomes. The distinction matters in a record that is intended to remain useful as programmes develop.

Industry, recognition and the next chapter

Deen also appears in reporting on Ghana’s energy sector. In September 2026, the Daily Graphic identified him as International Business and Coordination Director of the Sentuo Group during coverage of a parliamentary visit and discussion of payment arrangements for locally sourced crude. This is a professional affiliation, distinct from an assertion of ownership of the group.

His sports contribution was recognised with a Special and Meritorious Award at the 48th Sports Writers Association of Ghana Awards, held in January 2024. The precise award category is part of the record.

Across these chapters, a consistent thread is the effort to connect people, institutions and resources. This website brings the biography, enterprise interests, dated news coverage and official photographs into one accessible place. It is a living account: future announcements can add verified progress, while the archive preserves the context in which earlier milestones occurred.
